Go for Gold!

With all eyes on the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games, we take a look at what's new and why the Gold Coast shines.

"The Goldie" has seen an incredible transformation ever since the news broke in 2011 that the city would host the 2018 Commonwealth Games. This was the catalyst for an influx of infrastructure projects, new glistening hotels, top-notch eateries and beautification of the glitter strip in readiness for games time. In short, the Gold Coast has never looked so good!

Dining and drinking
There was a time when the Gold Coast Highway was littered with 50's style motels and fast food chains, but times have changed, making way for a new wave of modern foodies. On the beach at Burleigh, you'll find one of the Gold Coast's brightest stars at Rick Shores. Overseen by Executive Chef Jake Pregnell, diners enjoy the bright, bold Pan-Asian menu overlooking the turquoise seas of Burleigh Heads Beach. Sound like heaven?

Nearby, discover The Fish House and as the name suggests, you'll find the Gold Coast's freshest seafood at this fine diner. The beach house luxe interiors, efficient service and impeccable cuisine are only overshadowed by the dazzling views of Burleigh Beach.

In Surfers Paradise, you can't go passed QT's remodelled Japanese eatery Yamagen. In typical QT style, the fit out is bold and fun, the food inventive and delicious with a creative cocktail list to seal the deal.

For brunch, our pick is Elk Espresso, a local institution that has been welcoming a mix of locals and visitors to its unassuming café in Broadbeach for years. It has recently moved into the hub of Broadbeach's Oasis Shopping precinct and can now boast beach views to go with your latte!

Shop til you Drop

Thanks to a $670 million renovation Pacific Fair, the Gold Coast's premier shopping centre is now a serious contender in the shopping stakes. Here you'll find high-end international brands such as Christian Louboutin, Chanel, Prada & Givenchy mixing it with popular chain stores such as H&M, Zara and Sephora. You'll also find Australian designers such as Aje, Sass & Bide and Manning Cartel flexing their fashion muscles.

Sleep with Me
Gold Coast hotels have never been more sexy! Say goodbye to tropical print fabrics and wicker furniture of old and hello to luxury hotels with impeccable design and styling. The Star (formerly Jupiters Casino) has unveiled their new "six star" hotel The Darling which boasts an uber-chic rooftop lounge bar called Nineteen at The Star

The Island has taken the kitschy cool of the Gold Coast and amplified it to create a boutique hotel with modern accommodation, stunning rooftop bars and restaurants. It's luxe for less on the glitter strip.

In Burleigh, you'll find a new beachside hidden gem with bespoke furnishings by designer diva Anna Spiro, of Halcyon House fame. The three bedroom Bon Sol apartment has swoon worthy interiors, complete with bar cart for mixing those beachy cocktails, umbrella optional. Also in Burleigh, book our favourite beachside abode, Bujerum Apartments.

Not to be outdone, there's newcomer the Ruby Collection; four towers on the site of the original Surfers Paradise Resort which will continue to change the face of the GC. The first 5 star tower will feature 230 apartments and 13 villas and is due to open in November 2018.

In the meantime, if you lust for laid back luxury with absolute beachfront location, then consider the chaming Dorchester on the Beach. Modern apartments, awe-inspiring views with professional service that just can't be beat.
