Perth Breakfast

I often get asked what my top recommendations are for breakfast in Perth and I find it really hard to answer! There are so many great places all over our city and it all depends on whether you want somewhere with a view of the sparkling Indian ocean or somewhere that serves dishes that are a little different to the usual bacon and eggs... or maybe you just want somewhere that serves a mean bloody mary? No matter what you want for breakfast, there will be a place in Perth that you’ll love. Here are the five places that I am always telling people to go to.

Jezabelle

Located in an art deco building at the end of a long line of antique and bric-a-brac shops, Jezebelle is adding a touch of new world class to old fashioned Guildford. The coffee is consistently on point and a varied menu combining traditional breakfast dishes along with those with a Spanish bent means there is something for everyone. This is a must do before heading into the Swan Valley for a day of wine tasting; you can even start the day with a cheeky glass of bubbly.

127 James St, Guildford

Breakfast served weekends 7am – 11.30am

Chefz Table

Situated at the eastern end of the CBD with a beautiful view over Langley Park to the river, this immaculately designed restaurant brings breakfast and fine dining together. There’s no fall back of the “big breakfast” here. With dishes like smoked cod kedgeree and apple & blue cheese omelette, this menu really encourages you to try something different. The French toast with a bacon steak (yep… a steak of bacon) is a must try. Everything is house cured and house made and with top notch service to boot this is place is one of my personal favourites.

Fairlanes Building – 181 Adelaide Tce, East Perth

Breakfast served weekends 8am – 3pm

Harvest Espresso

Run by a dedicated husband and wife team, Harvest Espresso is a welcome addition to the ever improving Albany Hwy strip in Vic Park. It’s cosy and rustic inside; jars with dried wildflowers adorn the wooden tables and delicious looking pastries decorate the counter. They have small yet interesting menu that changes with the seasons. The food is enticing, fresh and thoughtful – think baked almond brioche or mushroom ragu. This is the kind of place you want to keep a secret but that would be unfair for everyone else to miss out on experiencing such a wonderful little cafe.

627 Albany Hwy, Vic Park

Breakfast served Tuesday – Sunday 7am – 4pm

The Wine Store

The Wine Store is an independent bottle shop sitting in the old wharfie streets of East Fremantle and the part we’re interested in is the Wine Bar. A wine bar for breakfast? Yep! The menu changes regularly, as any menu should that claims to use fresh local produce. The food has a South American slant to it without being too obvious about it. They’ve made a toasted ham and cheese sandwich sound interesting! The chilli eggs with burnt tomato salsa are a staple fixture and a definite must try. Coffee by Five Senses ensures you’ll not only be impressed by the food but also their blend of beans called “Dark Horse”. It’s strong without being bitter and has a brilliant robust flavour. Check this one out before a day at the beach or a visit to historical Fremantle.

48 George St, East Fremantle
Breakfast served Tues - Sun 7am – 12pm

Mary Street Bakery

Mary Street Bakery is another new addition to the Beaufort Street strip that is proving to be very popular indeed. This place is a bakery by name, bakery by nature; yep..it has an actual bakery at the back of the café! There is nothing “standard” about the menu here. Dishes like toad in the hole, pork belly with beans, fried egg and kimchi or even eggs and soldiers with tomato chipotle chutney are what make this menu fun and interesting. They use Pound Coffee, which is a local roaster producing top quality beans. The coffee is unforgettable! The service is relaxed and friendly and it is easy to see why this place is so popular with foodies and critics alike.

507 Beaufort St, Highgate
Breakfast served daily, 7am – 3pm
