Alex Hotel Perth Review

As Alex Hotel Perth celebrates its third birthday, we reflect on our recent stay at this hip hotel and reveal the best in the west.

What we Love
Alex Hotel is a boutique hotel with a cool, modern twist. It's all about compact rooms and communal spaces, which is proving a popular trend. The super friendly team offer helpful suggestions about local restaurants & bars and are completely engaging with all guests, helped by a free-flowing reception area without a formal reception desk.

Rooms are minimalist, cleverly designed and include free wifi, smart tv and complimentary filtered still water in refillable bottles, a great environmentally friendly initiative. There are unique touches everywhere, like handmade soap and the rooftop terrace is a little oasis from the city.

The mezzanine lounge is open to all guests to relax and help themselves to the honour bar. Daily light breakfast is included in your stay and is a delicious feast of quality cereal, freshly baked muffins, bread and juices.

In the Know
You're amongst the entertainment precinct of Perth's Northbridge and earplugs are provided alongside the bathroom amenities, so take note. Take advantage of this lively location and hit up some of these favourite local haunts:

Shadow Wine Bar, Northbridge
Adjacent to the hotel is the sleek and sexy, Shadow Wine Bar. They have crazy good bar snacks and a stellar wine list with a mix of local, national and international wines. Highly recommend.

Mechanics Institute Bar, Northbridge
With grungy tunes, Flipside burgers and curious cocktails, head to Mechanics Institute for rooftop hangs. With a leaning toward worldwide whiskey's from the US and Scotland, they've also got all your gin and tequila cravings covered too.

Lucky Chan's Laundry & Noodle Bar, Northbridge
Enter via the front Chinese laundry into Perth's first partially crowd funded cocktail and noodle bar. The small eating house has an uber inviting bar stocked with Sake and spirits and street eats menu of dumplings, bao and ramen. The multi-level temple has rooftop tables too and the food is beyond delicious, just go!

The Standard, Northbridge
Set in a lofty industrial space with only see-through shelving separating the bar and kitchen, the enticing aromas of delicious dishes wafting through the bar will have you grabbing for a menu as soon as you walk through the door. The relaxed wine garden out back is perfect for balmy Perth nights. This Northbridge bar sets a new standard in contemporary bar food in Perth (see what we did there).

The Bird, Northbridge
This hipster hangout and live music venue is the perfect place to catch a cool live band or DJ session. With entry fees just $5-$10 it feels good to support local music.
