Champagne Shortage in Australia?

While it might feel like there has been little to celebrate lately with rolling lockdowns and border restrictions, champagne sales in Australia have actually been on the up.

In fact, Australia has shown the biggest growth of champagne’s key markets in 2020, strengthening its position as the world’s seventh largest champagne market and overtaking the UK to become the world’s fourth largest market per head of population according to champagne expert Tyson Stelzer.

This unprecedented popularity of champagne down under has put extreme pressure on supply channels, already suffering in the wake of the global shipping crisis and even more so due to delays in supply channels resulting from lockdowns in France that put the brakes on disgorgement, labeling and preparation of the bottles for shipping over the past year and a half.

“This is why we are already seeing shortages of key champagne brands on the shelves, which in some cases may not be fully replenished until 2022” Stelzer said. What does this mean for you? Buying champagne from the larger houses will get harder and more expensive.

Enter Taste Champagne – your opportunity to re-engage with all your favourite champagne brands and discover some new and exciting houses. The event provides the opportunity for guests to order direct from importing agents or from Langton’s, Taste Champagne’s retail partner.
