Dark Mofo 2014

Dark Mofo is back, and it promises to be ‘colder’ and ‘darker’ than last year’s inaugural event. Tasmania’s premier winter festival returns in June, embracing the dark and reinvigorating the city through a packed program of art, food and music.

Recently unveiling its 2014 programme, the lineup includes performances from Diamanda Galás, David Lynch presents Chrysta Bell and hardcore rockers The Bronx.

Hobart’s night sky will again be transformed with another large-scale interactive light installation. Eighteen searchlights make up the artwork by Mexican artist Rafael Lozanao-Hemmer that will be installed on the Hobart waterfront.

Inspired by cultural traditions around the winter solstice, Winter Feast is more than just a food festival and encourages visitors to lose themselves in the rich atmosphere and multi-sensory experience. It’s about sharing food, stories, being entertained and gathering by the waterfront with fire and fantastic food.

Brace yourselves, the nude swim returns and other highlights will include the “Ferris Wheel of Death”; the decadent Red Death masquerade ball; and Washing River 2014, an interactive public artwork by Chinese artist Yin Xiuzhen.

The 10-day festival begins on June 12, taking in the winter solstice. This year, the celebration of both ancient and contemporary mythologies, birth and death, fire and light, culture and community – extends from Hobart north to include Launceston.

Dark Mofo will run from June 12-22, check out the Dark Mofo website to find out more about the festival and buy tickets.

And while you're planning that mini-break, check out our great selection of Hobart accommodation.
