Aria Southbank Review – Affordable luxury with style and substance

There are plenty of apartment style hotels to choose from in Melbourne's Southbank, but Aria Favourite rises above the pack by offering more than you expect with 24 hour reception, daily housekeeping and stylish suites you won't want to leave!

The Hotel
Inspired by art, Aria commissioned four local artists to create bespoke artworks throughout the hotel. From the moody style of Jeremiah Locke, the quirkiness of Alexandra Ethell, to bold geometric designs by Louise De Weger and the colourful Kirsten Jackson you're bound to find an artwork to suit your mood.

The Room
My one-bedroom apartment is light, bright and decked out in minimalist Scandi style. The walls are adorned with artwork by Kirsten Jackson, my favourite of the four featured artists. The apartment is huge (over 62sqm) and thoughtfully laid out with a well-equipped full kitchen, coffee machine, microwave, oven, stove top, dishwasher and full size fridge but sans minibar. The open plan lounge and dining room is filled with comfortable and colourful furnishings, plus a work desk and free WiFi and balcony overlooking the city. Now let's talk about the bedroom...the cloud-like beds are superb, promising a good night's sleep. I discovered they are a super quality AH Beard King Coil mattress which had me Googling local retailers the moment I got home! The all white bathroom featured a shower over bath and a huge showerhead to wash away all the cares of the day. If you're staying a little longer, there is a handy in-room laundry with washer and dryer. Honestly, you could happily move right in!

Stepping Out
Located in City Road Southbank, you're just a moments walk to the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, Crown Casino Complex and Southbank restaurants. Conveniently there is a Woolworths Supermarket located next door to stock up on your breakfast essentials and goodies if you opt for a little self-catering while you're in-house. Next door is also a Budget/AVIS office if you're hiring a car to explore Victoria. There is also a neat little list of "Favourite Places" in the room, which details the hotels recommended local cafes and restaurants such as Chez Dré Patisserie Boulangerie. On a beautiful sunny Sunday, we headed to Southgate for brunch with Little Miss Melbourne at P.S. Bar Kitchen, the downstairs more casual eatery from Pure South Dining, which specialises in showcasing the best of Tasmanian produce and strong Giancarlo Coffee to kickstart your morning Melbourne style.

The Verdict
From the moment you arrive to the light, bright lobby and cheery staff you're ready to make this hotel your home. Well-equipped apartments with dreamy beds and bespoke local artwork seal the deal. There is currently some construction occurring opposite (midweek only), but hey this is a major city, so you have to expect some level of noise. It didn't disturb our weekend adventures and Aria Favourites is a great base to explore all the Melbourne has to offer.
