Magnolia on Kent Review

One Perfect Weekend in Brisbane

There's something happening in Brisbane, with a flood of new hotels, restaurants and bars opening across the city, there's never been a better time to plan a weekend in Brisbane.

When choosing the perfect accommodation for a weekend getaway, consider who's in your travel party and what type of experience you want to have. Romantic getaway? Choose the sleek and chic The Calile in James Street. Business trip? Perhaps try Next Hotel in the city, high on tech and business services. For a family getaway, our pick is to live like a local in a holiday house in a fabulously central location, like Magnolia on Kent.

Magnolia on Kent is located in the inner city suburb of New Farm, the perfect base to explore everything Brisbane has to offer. Magnolia on Kent is within walking distance to the boutiques and eateries of James Street and the bars and restaurants at Howard Smith Wharves.

This Brisbane holiday house exudes elegance, a beautifully restored 1890's Queenslander, Magnolia on Kent features a welcoming wide verandah to sit and soak up the afternoon sunshine while popping the welcome bottle of sparkling wine.

Step inside the red door and the house features three bedrooms off a central hallway and kitchen at the rear opening out to a sunny deck to dine alfresco. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for an extended stay including coffee machine, welcome breakfast provisions, blender and more. Do we really have to leave?

Each room is beautifully decorated with the finest linen and quality furnishings. Blockout curtains and pillow top beds ensure a luxurious and restful sleep. One room has an ensuite and the remaining two rooms share the main bathroom.

The elegant lounge room has plush grey couches, overflowing bookshelf with a range of titles, board games and a vintage record player. Stay in and be entertained with Netflix and free WiFi or step outside and discover Brisbane.

Breakfast in Brisbane

You're spoilt for choice with dining options a stones throw from Magnolia on Kent. Head around the corner to The Gettin' Place for coffee and bites in this hole in the wall café where you'll feel like a local in no time. Nearby, Miss Jones offers an inventive menu including Israeli Eggs with hummus, haloumi, pesto, crispy kale, broccolini, dukkah, schiacciata and poached eggs.

Dine at Hellenika at The Calile

Step outside your Brisbane abode and you're just moments to all James Street has to offer. Book ahead and dine at Hellenika at The Calile, a modern Greek restaurant overlooking the hotel pool. The bustling diner offers slick service from charming waiters and meals are designed for sharing for a night of family feasting. The standout was the spanakopita, salty fetta and spinach encased by flaky pastry. Nostimo!

Bar hopping at Howard Smith Wharves

Spend the afternoon bar hopping along Howard Smith Wharves, easily accessible via a lift down the cliff face from the end of our street. Enjoy sunset cocktails under the Story Bridge at Brisbane's dazzling overwater bar Mr Percival's. Continue along the wharf with beers and bites at Felon's Brewing Co and end with a sophisticated drink at the newest watering hole ARC Dining & Wine Bar. The wine list has been carefully curated by Sommelier Ian Trinkle paired beautifully with Alanna Sapwell's creative bar snacks including Vinegar & Salt Bush Pigs Ears (trust us, just try it) and Pork & Spent Mandarin Salumi with Coffee Crack.

Magnolia on Kent is the kind of place you'd like to call home, if only for one perfect weekend.
