School Holiday City Breaks

The countdown to winter school holidays has begun.  Are you still lost for ideas of where to go and what to do?  We know you’d like to curl up with a good book in front of a log fire and drink red wine, but there’s the small question of what to do with the kids for two weeks.

We’ve done the hard work for you, so all you have to do is pick your favourite destination and choose one of the gorgeous accommodation options we’ve hand picked for you.

Take advantage of the fact that Brisbane is warm in winter and get the kids outdoors, exhausting them with activities in the fresh air.  Why not try a Riverlife guided Kyak tour of the Brisbane River, stand up paddle boarding, abseiling down the Kangaroo Cliffs, or hiring bikes and riding along the many bike paths along the river, South Bank and the Botanical Gardens?  You can post your photos of you and the kids in your shorts and t-shirts and be the envy of all your friends on Instagram.

Where to stay: Diamant Hotel Brisbane from $138 per night.

Why not head to the Harbour City and tour an active warship, cruise the harbour on a Tall Ship, see breath-taking aerial displays and witness fireworks and lightshow as a part of the International Fleet Review? There’s also the NRL Grand Final Day at Sydney Olympic Park, which will provide a full day of games and entertainment including musical sensations Ricky Martin and Jessica Mauboy.

Where to stay: Adge Apartments from $294 per night.

The kids will love you if you take them to Melbourne to the world premiere event of DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition! The Exhibition features over 400 items including, never-seen-before concept drawings, interviews, models and original artworks, and interactive experiences for children and adults from movies such as Shrek, Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda.

Where to stay: The Olsen from $209 per night

Got technically minded kids? Budding scientists or astronomers, then Canberra is the town for you this school holidays.  They can learn to build a working robot at Kid Technic or join in any of a number of the CSIRO’s school holiday programs.

Where to stay: East Hotel & Apartments from $200 per night.

Hire a car and give the kids an experience they will never forget at The Little Agrarian. The School holiday program provides kids with an opportunity to see, smell, touch and taste their way around the farm, gardens and kitchen, to fully appreciate the flavour of real food.

Where to stay: Beachview Bellerive from $450 per night plus Stay 4/Pay 3 this winter.
