In recent years, the GC has received a bad rap in the media, particularly Surfers Paradise, but we saw none of that on our recent trip. The wait is over and Gold Coast's Balter Brewing is now open to the public, just in time for the long weekend! We've been following the Balter journey on Instagram ever since talented Brisbane design duo Frank & Mimi began transforming the warehouse space with an incredible large scale artwork.
This week, we spent time on the Gold Coast attending an industry conference and staying at Q1 Resort & Spa in the heart of Surfers Paradise. I must confess, Gold Coast hasn’t previously been my go-to destination, despite its close proximity from Brisbane. I’ve seen the destination with fresh eyes this week and I was mighty impressed! Waking early each morning to walk along the beach at sunrise was an invigorating way to start the day. The Surfers Paradise Foreshore redevelopment is nothing short of spectacular and the city is preparing itself ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2018 in style.
It’s less than 4 weeks before the world’s attention is on Brisbane for the G20 Leaders Summit. While there are some great events for locals to celebrate this important occasion including the G20 Global Café and G20 Cultural Celebration, Brisbanites are encouraged to exit the city on Friday 14 November to make way for the motorcades. While glimpsing an Obama motorcade might be cool, what’s cooler is a long weekend by the beach!
