Zagame’s House Review – City Chic

Melbourne is one Australia’s favourite city break destinations, with travellers attracted to its vibrant fashion, arts and culture scene. One new hotel brings these attributes together, oozing style and sophistication. Zagame’s House opened in 2019 and quietly moved up the ranks to score the top spot on Tripadvisor nailing service, quality and value for money.

Located on the fringe of the CBD in popular Lygon Street Carlton, Zagame’s House is a 97-room boutique hotel with an eye for style and thoughtful details at every turn.

Welcome to Zagame’s House
You know you’ve arrived somewhere special when you first pull up at the midnight black building with its cool neon lights and geometric designs splashed on the façade beckoning you in.

Step inside and be greeted by supremely friendly and helpful staff and marvel at the open plan lobby that’s more a welcoming club than formal hotel reception, with communal spaces for eating, drinking or working – ideal for the digital nomad. Artworks fill every space featuring commissioned works by local artists including Rosie Woods, Ryan Foote, Lulu Zagame and Karl Gordon.

Rooms at Zagame’s House
Our ‘House Pad’ room is relatively compact, but slightly larger than the lead in ‘House Room’ with space for a cozy sitting area so you can stretch out after a day exploring Melbourne. Windows are double-glazed but there is still a buzz from the street and fellow revellers returning from a night on the town, although cool sleep masks are provided so you can catch some zzz’s.

Bathrooms are sleek and sophisticated featuring UK Cowshed amenities including your choice of soothing or uplifting shower gel, depending on your mood. There is a sliding divider separating the bathroom from the bedroom which provides an open plan feel for solo travellers but would provide minimal privacy if sharing. Forget about those ineffectual hairdryers usually found in hotels, Zagame offers a luxe Muk Hair dryer as well as a straightener in every room. There’s also a thoughtful list of items on the house or to borrow if you’ve forgotten something.

The king size bed ensures a dreamy night’s sleep and the enormous Samsung TV has free movies and Chromecast, so you can stream your devices to the TV. Pump the tunes in your room on the Marshall Bluetooth speaker and fix yourself a cocktail with a full set of The Everleigh Bottling Co classic cocktails available. Raid the epic minibar, boasting a bespoke selection of sweets and treats and relax in luxe robes and in lieu of slippers, some snazzy Zagame’s House socks. The devil is in the detail at Zagame’s House where design and function fuse to create a top-notch experience.

Breakfast at 1851 Coffee Kitchen
Perch at the communal table and order from the a la carte menu and enjoy a breakfast of champions including the highly recommended ZH Granola Bowl featuring Acai sorbet, fresh and freeze dried seasonal fruit, granola, yoghurt, coconut and the best local coffee by Mansfield Coffee Merchants.

Lord Lygon Wine Bar
Sure Melbourne has a plethora of wine bars to choose from, but Lord Lygon should not be missed on your Melbourne eatinerary. With a drool worthy menu of bar bites including the signature Baked Camembert infused with garlic & thyme and toasted Turkish bread for dipping, it’s deliciously good and a curated wine list to match.

Zagame’s House has been thoughtfully designed to create a memorable Melbourne city stay. Make Zagame’s House your Melbourne bolthole in the hip hood of Carlton.
