Alluxia’s Best of Travel 2015

As we kick start a new year, we're taking a moment to reflect on the amazing places we've been and the people we've met over the past 12 months. In 2015, we travelled across Australia searching for the best of the best in each region and here is the list of our favourite, memorable and jaw dropping accommodation that we recommend you add to your bucket list for 2016!

1. Pumphouse Point, Lake St Clair
Without doubt our favourite new addition to the alluxia collection this year was the completely unique and wonderful Pumphouse Point! Just 2.5 hours from Hobart, this breathtaking retreat offers just the right amount of relaxed luxury for a memorable getaway. Loved the shared dining experience and the in-room larder packed with all the gourmet essentials. For more, read our Pumphouse Point review.

2. Halcyon House, Cabarita Beach
Halcyon House has been on the "what's hot" list for the hip & fasionable ever since it opened mid-year. With a cool, Palm Springs vibe on the outside, eclectic interiors by Anna Spiro inside, it's like no other retreat in Australia.

3. The New Inchcolm Hotel & Suites, Brisbane
After an $8m refurbishment this stunning historic building has quietly re-opened and we must say is completely wow factor! With art deco style and sophistication, it's the most beautiful hotel in Brisbane, if not Australia. We must confess to completely falling in love with this hotel and are now working closely with the team on their marketing to share this special hotel to the world.

4. St Jerome's - The Hotel, Melbourne
This is modern glamping like you've never seen before. Forget camping in the wilderness, these luxury tents are pitched in the Melbourne CBD above Melbourne Central Shopping Centre. The fun continues with a host of included extras including Gelato Messina delivered to your tent, an esky filled with mini-bar items and the list simply goes on...

5. Niramaya Villas & Spa, Port Douglas

These villas exceeded our expectations this year. From the moment we checked into these luxury villas, their jaw-dropping beauty blew us away. With private plunge pools and breezy pavilions, it's the open plan style & luxury appointments that makes you feel so relaxed, like you never want to leave...

6. Thalia Haven, East Coast TAS
Thalia Haven owner Susan, who has such great warmth and knack for hospitality, immediately charmed us and this shows in the incredible holiday house. The rugged, yet elegant house is set across four ancient-stone pavilions, clustered around olive tree courtyards but the real pièce de résistance is the outdoor ocean view bathtub. Sublime! 7. Azjure Studio Retreat, Granite Belt
We've long been advocates of this terrific region, but our stay at Azjure Studio Retreat earlier this year really topped it off. With a super warm welcome and absolutely perfect accommodation, I was really wishing I hadn't been flying solo here; it's really the ideal romantic getaway amongst the vines. 8. Spicers Vineyards Estate, Hunter Valley
Spicers Vineyards Estate isn't new, but what it is, is consistently good. We found it the ideal winter getaway with in-room real wood burning fireplace, all ready set so all you need to do is strike a match, sit back, relax and enjoy wine & cheese by the fire. Really, it's ideal in any season and you can read our Spicers Vineyards Estate review here.

9. Coppersmith Hotel, Melbourne
Recently transformed, this 15 room boutique hotel is a real hidden gem and great addition to the Melbourne hotel scene. Downstairs is a slick gastronomic bar and dining room that really invites you to settle in for the afternoon. Upstairs are smart, minimalist rooms and a rooftop retreat. It's luxury on an intimate scale and we likey.

10. Highfield House, Launceston
Finally, Highfield House was a delightful discovery in the completely charming city of Launceston. The owners have lovingly restored this historic house and styled it to perfection! Get ready to change your perceptions about traditional bed & breakfasts and checkin to experience modern luxury & style on a whole new level.
